It’s probably just the Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon, but all of a sudden, it seemed that

all of the smart people that I admire were screaming at me to write. (I’ve collected a few of those nudges below.)

So, I listened to them. In 2020 every time I was inspired by an idea, rather than just thinking, “you should write this down,” I took a few minutes and did so.

Privately.

As my secret notebook grew, a secondary theme emerged in my reading.

You need to write in public.

It’s unlike me. It’s scary as hell, but in keeping with the theme of taking the advice of people smarter than me, here we are.

Finally, I’m just going to outright steal a couple of sentences from this page because it was stated so perfectly.

This site is my notebook where I think things through “out loud.” I mostly write here for myself, and I hope someone benefits from it now and then.

-write about what fascinates you
-make one point per sentence
-use stories to make your point
-cut extra words like “really” and “very”
-read the whole thing out loud
-post publicly (you’ll try harder when you know others will read it)
